I had a chance to sit down last week with the most awesome group of guys! Kalani and The Mainlanders, and let me tell you, this is one of the funniest and sweetest groups you’ll ever meet!
Hailing from St Joseph Missouri and now based in Des Moines Iowa, Christgen aka Kalani, the Front man and Lead Vocalist’s love for music started at a very young age. In middle school he played basketball until he decided to dive full force into music. Playing clarinet and then saxophone for about 2 years. He was definitely torn between music and sports. So, when he reached high school, he did what most teenage boys with an unrelenting passion for music do, he begged his parents to buy him a drum set, so he could rock out in the garage and balance playing football.

So, he got to work teaching himself how to play, and he got good! So good in fact, that he became sponsored by SJC Custom Drums of Kansas City at the age of 19 and traveled around with the Brady Wilson Band in college while he was also busy playing college football and doing rodeo at the time.
Fast forward to 2016, Christgen is rocking out solo gigs for a couple years at this point in St Joseph, playing covers and writing originals, and runs into Jason Johnson at Johnson’s family owned bar, Unplugged. The two hit it off and started playing gigs together regionally.
Jason has been around a while and knows his stuff! He is a musician and songwriter. He plays the bass and is a harmony vocalist with the band. But that’s not all! This dude also plays piano and rhythm guitar and is a lead vocalist for Grindstone Creek and Old souls. He’s been on the grind since 1989! He’s got an awesome podcast called Unsigned that you should totally check out!
In steps Bret Yager. The boys were wanting to get into the studio and record some tunes and Bret was just the guy they were looking for. Bret laid down the guitar, Jason laid down the bass and with Christgen on vocals by the end of the day the group was on fire. Bret calls himself a Jack of all trades, and a Master of none. He loves all things art and is a musician, photographer, videographer, designer and editor but most importantly he’s a dad. He has 2 degrees, one being in Music and the other in Business. The guys also consider him the “Band Dad”.
The boys were lucky enough to get a hold of Brian Kline, the mad man in the back, banging on the drums! Brian started playing when he was 6 years old and has been playing with live bands since he was 15. He joined up with the boys back in the fall, last year and has been having the time of his life! He has three sons and a daughter, loves to surf, play and watch hockey, go hiking, camping and travel just about anywhere. He’s known for being the wild man of the group and he has stories for days!
❤️💛💚Fun Facts about the guys❤️💛💚

Brian is a St. Louis Blues Fan and his family has been cheering them on since the 60’s!
